APS Member Bequeaths Over $500,000 to the APS

APS Member Bequeaths Over $500,000 to the APS

Beverly and Charles Bishop truly valued being members of the APS. Both frequently attended APS meetings, and Beverly served as a member of Council, Chair of the CNS Section, and Chair of both the Daggs Award and Distinguished Physiologists Committees. The value they placed on their involvement and service to the Society is demonstrated by their generous bequest to the APS.

In January 2014, the APS received nearly $503,000 from the estate of Charles W. Bishop. In order to honor his late wife, Beverly P. Bishop, this gift established and endowed a new young investigator award – the Beverly Petterson Bishop Award for Excellence in Neuroscience – in memory of Beverly's pioneering discoveries in neurophysiology. To learn more about Beverly's life and career, please view her interview for the APS Living History of Physiology series. The award provides $20,000 for support of the research activities of a young physiologist demonstrating outstanding promise in neurophysiological research.

The APS greatly appreciates all gifts, including planned gifts such as bequests. For more information on how to leave a bequest to the Society, please visit apsgiving.org or contact the Development Office at donations@the-aps.org or call (301) 634-7406.
